Past and Present 2017 Memories
Week 52  - December 24, 2017 to December 31, 2017   FINAL WEEK OF 2017 !

I am trying something new this year.

I am calling this year "Past and Present
Memories."

The idea is to post a photograph from the
past each week with a photograph that is
taken during each week of 2017.

As before, I will publish a hardbound book
at the end of the year.

I think this might be a nice way to
preserve past photographs and at the
same time, keep up with what is going on
in 2017.

Wish me luck.

In the meantime, check out the books I
have already published by clicking on the
"My PbR Books' icon below.

Enjoy.
"Facing Future 2017"
Past and Present Memories
I was born Richard Gwain
Stutt on February 22, 1950.
This photograph of me was
taken February 2, 1952.
(my mother's handwriting)
I was registered as Richard
Gwain Leggett in the 1st
grade at Whittier Elementary
School in Long Beach
California.
This week........
Started the week by having dinner with John and Honor
at the Wharf in Monterey.  I was surprised to see the little
bio on the menu about Sabu Shake.  I knew him when I
was a manger with Safeway at Carmel Valley.  Great
man.  The next day we traveled  to Sacramento to
celebrate the New Year's with our son David, Paula, and
Paula parents (Paul and Josie)  We did a river boat ride
to see the fireworks on the Sacramento River.  We
saluted the new years many times that evening.  A
wonderful new family tradition. On January 2nd, USC
beat Penn State to become the Rose Bowl Champion!  I
was so excited I was ugly...  see photo.
On January 3, I traveled to Las Vegas for the CES show.
Another family tradition with cousins Robert and Mike.
The Past........
This year's book already
published?  You bet!
above and you will see it
on my book page.
Week 1 - January 1, 2017 to January 7. 2017
February 2, 1952 - San
Pedro California
"Naked Baby In The
House"
Hey, that baby is cute!
What happened?
January 4, 2017 - Las Vegas,
Nevada
Hey, that's Piff the Magic
Dragon, Mr. Piffles, and I
His show is truly magical and
funny and Mr. Piffle is adorable.
January 4-8, 2017 - Las Vegas, Nevada
Every year for over the last 15 years, cousins Mike and Robert and I travel to Las Vegas for the annual
Consumer Electronics Show.  We never know what to expect. We do know we usually have a lot of fun
and adventure. Concerts, parties, the CES show.  Sometimes, something a little different.  Piff the Magic
Dragon of America's Got Talent fame.  He placed second.
Week 2 - January 8, 2017 to January 14. 2017
Thanks to relatives in Iowa and relatives in Germany, one of the branches of our family tree can be traced  back to the mid to late 1600's to
Jakob Emeis.  Jakob to Carl Johann Emeis to Friedrich Carl Emeis to Carl Johann (2) to August Julius Emeis to Laura Emeis.  Laura Emeis
married Henry Stutt.   Henry and Laura had eight children (Edna, Alice, Carrie, Laura, Hilda, Walter, Harry, and Carl)  Carl married Florence
Schwerdfeger (my grandfather and grandmother).  Carl and FLorence had two children (Betty Ann and Robert Carl)  Betty Ann Stutt gave birth
to Richard Gwain Stutt (Leggett).  Richard married Jeanne Petri.  Richard and Jeanne has three children (Jennifer, David, and Richelle).
Jennifer married Steve Swart and they have two children, Ronan and Isobel.  Richelle married Wesley Onalfo and they have one child, Roxy.
David married Paula Black.  Their baby is in the oven (see scan)!  What a family tree branch!  I couldn't pass up the chance to green screen a
photo of me with my great, great, grandfather.
Photography is still a major interest of mine.  These photos are examples of new and
exciting stuff.  The Nikon area at CES continues to present  innovative new ideas in photography.   Paula introduced me to
Snapchat which I am finding to be very fun, once I get the hang of it.I bought a new VR camera while I was in Las Vegas.  I am
fascinated with it's potential.
Week 3 - January 15, 2017 to January 21. 2017
From my grandmother's family tree.  JOHANN  FREDERICK SCHWERDTFEGER was born in Germany. He married MARIA
SOPHIA BECKER January 28, 1820 in Rocknitz, Dargun, Germany.  They had four children, one of which was CHRISTIAN2
JOHN SCHWERDTFEGER, b. August 6, 1822, Mecklinburg, Dargun, Germany; m. FRIEDERIKA NEHLS NELSON.  They also
had four children, one of which was first born son LOUIS3 CARL SCHWERDTFEGER, b. October 15, 1849,
Mecklinburg-Schwerin, Germany; d. March 3, 1924, Davenport, Scott County, Iowa; m. LOUISA MARGARET BAUMER,
December 31, 1871, Tama, Tama, Iowa.  They had eight children, one of which was GEORGE ALBERT SCHWERDTFEGER, b.
December 10, 1887, Davenport, Scott, Iowa; d. February 22, 1959, Davenport, Iowa (possible 2/24/1954); m. BERTHA M
LOHSE, May 1, 1908, Davenport, Scott, Iowa.  George Albert married Bertha M Lohse and had 6 children. He passed away on
22 Feb 1959 in Davenport, Iowa, USA.  Of the six children, one was Florence Schwerdtfeger (my grand mother).
It's been
raining a lot lately and we need it.  However, on rainy days, you have to find other things to do.  Like doing green screen
photography, and cleaning out boxes of stuff finding treasures like old negatives.  After a little online search, I found a way to
see a positive image from a negative.  Then I remembered I had a gadget I hadn't used before.  I put it together and found it will
automatically change a negative to a positive and save it digitally.  The photo on the right is one I captured.  Not bad, and the
memories.  Now I want to do a ton of them and interesting enough, it goes with the theme of my page this year.  Watch for
me.  My son Dave wondered if I will be doing VHS tapes next.  I told him I have to find them first.  Stay tuned.
Week 4 - January 22, 2017 to January 28. 2017
The Past,  Back row, left to right;  My grandfather Carl, brothers,
Henry and Walter; Sisters, Hilda and Carrie. Opposite.  The
earliest photograph of my grandmother Florence and her brother
Robert.  (I believed he died soon after this photograph.  Later on,
Florence had another brother Richard, my namesake?).
A long lost friend of mine posted the poster photo.  Seems like
words of wisdom these days.  Last week, we joined cousins Angie
and Richard at the first iL Fornaio Wine Dinner of the year.  The
featured wine was Jouillan Wines.  I took a selfie of the new wine
maker Matt.  His wines will be available year after next.  Promises
to be as good as the current wines.
Thanks to Snapchat, there I am trying to figure out which I should
cheer for to win the Pro Bowl, AFC or NFC?  Well, I am wearing
gray because I don't care.  I would rather relax in my cup of java.
Week 5 - January 29, 2017 to February 4, 2017
My Grandfather Carl Stutt on his wedding day.  My Grandmother Florence (date unknown).
The original church marriage certificate.
My Grandchildren were over this weekend.  Tons of fun and a few nice photographs.  Boy, did I have a bad hair day...... laughing.
Week 6 - February 5, 2017 to February 11, 2017
My grandmother Florence had two children.  On the left is my grandmother holding my mother Betty Ann Stutt.  On the right is my
grandmother holding my uncle, Robert Carl Stutt, aka "Bobby Carl."  Of all the people in the world I wish I could have met and had some
time with, one is my grandmother.  Her life, short lived.  The other is my father.  I can't say I honestly know his name, let alone know
anything about him.  If you are lucky enough, get to know your parents and grandparents well.  For all we will have are memories to keep
them alive in our hearts and minds. Jeanne and I have admired this artist for years.  We are finally able to purchase an original.  Of all the
works Chris Derubeis, interesting that we purchased a work entitled, "Opposites Attract."
Week 7 - February 12, 2017 to February 18, 2017
"Brothers and Sisters"
The old theme this week is brothers and sisters.
Above is a photograph of my mother and her brother, my uncle
Bob.  To the upper right, I am holding my sister Johnnie.
Jennifer and David and rRichelle and David.
The "New" subject is that I turned 67 years old this week.
Happy Birthday to Me.
Week 8 - February 19, 2017 to February 25, 2017
From the Past.  All three of the photographs above are of my mother as a child.  Not much different than the children of today.  Birthday suit, high chair, and moody for
photographs.  That's my grandmother's hand reaching out for my mom.   The present.  Paula is keeping track of her progress, they know it's a boy and his name is Noah
Greyson Leggett.  I hope I spelled it right.  More present is a continuation of celebrating my birthday.  I found some very old BV wine so Jennifer and I got to enjoy this very old
wine.  Steve, Rionan, and Isobel joined us as well.  We had plenty of fun.
Week 9 - February 26, 2017 to March 4, 2017
This week's photographs can be called, "Big and Small."  Big relatives and small relatives.  From Left to right.  My
grandmother Florence holding my mother.  Next one over, my great Aunt (either Aunt Betty or Aunt Jean).  Then, that's me
holding Roxy, my 3rd grandchild.  As you can see, she is a fan of SnapChat.  And finally,....  it was a busy week for me
wedding wise, I did 7 weddings in 6 days.  Two weddings were over in the Carmel/Monterey area.  As I left each wedding,
the sun was setting.  I love sunsets, so big and beautiful, one can't help be feel small in comparison.
Week 10 - March 5, 2017 to March 11, 2017
More old photographs of my mother and on of her with my uncle Bobby Carl.  This week can be named "Growing up."   Like the photographs show, we all are growing older, but I refuse to 'Grow Up."
Having fun with St. Patrick's Day.  And thanks to my daughter Jennifer's posting on FB, celebrating Isobel's birthday, we can see how much my grand daughter Isobel has grown.  From a tiny baby to a
ballerina. Capture moments in life with photographs for they show the history of us all growing older or growing up. Above I am saluting my recent birthday present to ME.  An original oil painting by my
favorite artist, Walfrido.  As they say, "don't ask."  lol   I am enjoying every $$$$$ of it.  Salute Walfrido.   Above I am working out at the gym.  At 67, if I can get out of bed, go do it!
Week 11 - March 12, 2017 to March 18, 2017
The Past:  Two photographs from the past.  Above left is a photograph of my mother date unknown.  Next to it on the right is a very early photograph of my sister, Johnnie.  I think she
was about 14 months. The Present:  Jeanne and I join Steve, Jennifer, Ronan, and Isobel for a dinner out to celebrate Isobel's birthday.  To the right is a photograph of Ronan and I
playing Xbox 360.  He stayed with us for a few days during his "Spring Break."  Below those photographs is a wonderful progress report from Paula and David.  David and Paula
have been working on Noah's bedroom.  Soon, Paula, soon.  Robert and I traveled to Palo Alto for a USC dinner. We me special guest USC star, 49er Great, NFL Hall of Fame
Member, owner of 4 super bowl rings, multiple NCAA Football National Championship rings and more:  RONNIE LOTT ! Above is Robert, Ronnie, and Rich (me).
Week 12 - March 19, 2017 to March 25, 2017
The Past.  I guess I learned at an early age that when one door closes, another one opens.  On the above left.  I appear to be old enough
to open doors.  Geeze, look at that blond hair.  Next photograph over.  I am sitting on the grass in front of where we lived when I started
building my memories.  That building may still be there.  We lived in San Pedro for a while.  This building was one of many considered
"The Projects."  It was near the big navel base.  I believe it is very near where Jeanne and I embark on the Princess Cruise ships.   The
Present and near future.  I guess Ronan enjoyed his weekend visit with Jeanne and I, he was still full of smiles when I took him back to
Jennifer.  His quote.  "I want to visit more often." The Near Present.  We are coming up to the Easter Season and Roxy's 1st birthday.
The photos are made from photographs Jeanne took of Roxy and I photoshopped them to use for Roxy's birthday.  So consider it a
"sneak preview."Ahhhhh,,, a photograph of Roxy and Grandpa.  I think she is going to be a photograph ham just like cousins Ronan and
Isobel.   Finally, I pulled this saying off a facebook friends site.  Good thoughts deserve sharing.
Week 13 - March 26, 2017 to April 1, 2017
The Past.  These two old photographs are of my mother working at the "Pike Canteen." The Pike Canteen was located in one of the five largest amusement zones in the
country at the time originally named "the Pike," but the name was changed to the Nu-Pike.  It's claim to fame was the Cyclone roller coasters, the only double roller
coaster to be partially over the ocean.  The Nu-Pike started to loose it's attraction when Knott's Berry Farm and Disneyland were built in the mid 1950's.  Maybe my many
days at the Pike is how I became clownish.  Who knows. The Present:  Speaking of clowning around.  Thank you to Snapchat for the clown image.BBQ season is
approaching, so Salute to that.  (Me with a glass of Red BBQ'ng some steaks). On Tuesday night, I went to see Graham Nash in concert.  Second time I have seen him
preform at the Sunset Center.  This time, I got to see his tour bus.  For those who don't know, he was a member of the Hollies and became a founding member of
Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young.
Week 14 - April 2, 2017 to April 8, 2017
The Past:  The photograph above is the only photograph that I have that shows my sister and I at the house we lived in at Gridley California.  We lived there for
about one year.  The last place we live at before coming to Salinas.  The Present.  OMG, a 67 year old bunny rabbit!  Must be getting close to Easter.  Isobel
came over last weekend for an overnight stay with her grandparents.  Lot's of play time.  And according to her, grandpa's have to play too.  So we did some
miniature croquet on my den floor, then came out the doll complete with dresser.  I needed a glass of wine to get through this.  She ended play time with some
singing.  She loves to sing.  We had some Hawaiian music she knew with a backdrop on the TV.  All her singing is award winning, so she awarded herself.  I saw
the last episode of Black Sails this week,  I guess I should return the costume now.  Finally, the winery in Italy I buy wine from introduced this new beverage.
Sparkling Lemoncello. I just had to order some.  And can you believe it.  All the way from Florence Italy and I got it in four days!   Why can't our local wines get
here that fast?  Oh well....  Salute.
The Present........
Week 15 - April 9, 2017 to April 15, 2017
The Past:  The photograph above is of my grandmother and my mother.  I believe, it is the only photograph I have of them on the street in Davenport where they lived.  The photo to the right is of my sister.
The New: Our traditional Easter Gathering Portrait.   All those that gathered to celebrate Easter. A surprise visit by cousins on the Petri side of the family.  Jeanne, John, and I joined cousins Terry, Willie, Robert, Julie for a nice lunch at Gino's in Salinas.
The day before Easter, Cousin Robert and I joined long time friend Randy at the USC Spring Football Practice. A few extra Easter photos thrown in for good measure.
Week 16 - April 16, 2017 to April 22, 2017
Past:  As it gets closer to Mother's Day, it's only right to highlight my mom from the past.  Yes, we all have childhoods and teen years.  Here are a couple of photographs
of my mother in her teen years.  Present:  I have been working on many aspects on our last year's trip to Italy.  I finally have all the photographs posted.  I have published
two books.  Now I am working on slide shows and then will finish up the set of books on our trip.  I cannot emphasize how much I enjoyed Italy. It is truly an amazing
country.  I hope I can mange to go back again some day.  Italy is wonderful. The biggie of the week is the recent doctor's visit for my check up.  He was thrilled I lost 25
pound since I last saw him and all my numbers have improved.  So I will be around for a while, thank goodness.  Roxy is a regular at our home and she is delightful.  I
had a little fun doing some artistic pics thanks to Snapchat. And finally, OMG, Spring is here and so is BBQ.  Steaks are so dang easy.  I use the 5-5-5 method.  Five
minutes to heat the grill, five minutes one side, flip, five minutes the other side.  Perfect every time.  So until next time....... Lift your glass of wine........ Salute!
Week 17 - April 23, 2017 to April 29, 2017
The Old:  Photographs of my sister and my mother at approximately the same age.  I think.  The New: Spring time is the beginning of
backyard BBQ.  Cousin Rich reminds me of that with sign, wine, and flower.  Hey, that's Rich with his sons mastering their new gas BBQ.
Next to it is my son David's text showing what he is about to BBQ.  Picked up my wine order from Boekenoogen.  They just released the
2015 Chard and Pinot.  So naturally, I had to try some.  Jeanne had the Chard, I had the Pinot.  VERY NICE.  Sooooooo
SALUTE to everyone for an enjoyable BBQ year.
Week 18 - April 30, 2017 to May 6, 2017
OLD:  Above, my grandfather Carl and his son, my uncle Robert.
NEW:  Ronan wanted to come over and spend the day with grandpa while his mother, sister, and grandmother went to San Francisco to the ballet.  After a writing exercise, it was straight to Spiderman
time.  Worked up a good hunger so off to Subway for a nice lunch.  And what?  A visit to the game store.  Sure, why not, got a couple more used games and the rest of the day was set.
Week 19 - May 7, 2017 to May 13, 2017
The Past:  I found these photograph negatives and digitally transformed them.  Above. Who knew, all would be special moms.  My daughters Jennifer and Richelle, my wife Jeanne, and my mother-in-law Angie.  The
photographs taken in Hawaii around mid 1992. Not sure about the date  of the one with Angie, Jeanne, Kim, and John and I.  Celebrate moms.
The Present:  An annual Mother's Day get together.  ALWAYS a family photograph or two or more.  The group shot: Front left to right.  Howard, Steve, Margaret, Isobel.  Behind from right to left:  David, Jeanne, Jennifer,
Ronan, Wes, Roxy, Richelle, and me.Another big event this week.  Paula's mom, Josie Black celebrated her 70Th Birthday!  Happy Birthday Josie!
Week 20 - May 14, 2017 to May 20, 2017
The Past:  Difficult to believe, but it's true.  The photographs of Jeanne and I (above) were taken on 6-3-1972, 45 years ago!
The Present:  Another wine maker dinner at IL Fornaio with cousins Angie and Richard.  The dinner featured Ventana Wines and a wonderful menu from Chef Gabriel.  Next, a
visit from my best friend Herb.  What a great day we had. Wrapping up the week was another birthday celebration.  This time, daughter Richelle.  Another very nice birthday
dinner.  A few candid's of Roxy thrown in for good measure.  The owner of Ventana Vineyards, Randy Pura gave out his special "home made" wine to everyone present.
Week 21 - May 21, 2017 to May 27, 2017
Old, but not feeling that way:  Jeanne and I were married 45 years ago on June 3rd, 1972!
New:  Celebrating our anniversary, Celebrating Jeanne's birthday, Jen and our grandchildren over for the day.  Roxy started walking, Ronan received four awards at school (he gets an award
every year!). RIP to Dexter, Paula and Dave's wonderful companion, he was a love bug for sure.  Super wedding.  Li, the coordinator booked me for 4 weddings!  What an eventful week. One
tradition I have done since year one of our marriage is to buy Jeanne a rose on our anniversary for every year we have been married and a different colored rose for the year to come.Happy
Anniversary Jeanne.
Week 22 - May 28, 2017 to June 3, 2017
Old:  Hey, that's me!  I tell people I was a "toe head" when I was young.  I think that is my 4th grade photo.  I may have
been a toe head, but I was cute.  Notice, "I WAS?"    New:  Jeanne and I traveled to the San Jose area to see amazing 4D
Sonograms of Noah!  I am still amazed.  After that awesome show, Jeanne and I found time to stop at Original Joe's in San
Jose for a quick anniversary meal.  Other events this week included stopping by Jen's house to see Ronan, Isobel, and
Steve for dinner.  Isobel wanted to draw something and I suggested our family in stick figures.  See the results.
Week 23 - June 4, 2017 to June 11, 2017
The Old: Yes, my sister and I were young once.  Don't know the exact age of these photographs, but I be it was around the 4th grade.  Look, me in a suit?  I guess I was destined to do weddings!
The New:  Two big events.  Ronan spent the week at our house and he was plenty busy.  We did so much, tons of grandpa time.  We even went to see the new Pirates movie.  The next big event was
Isobel's ballet.  She worked so hard and it showed.  We really enjoyed the show.  Lot's of talent.  And of course, many photo ops.
Week 24 - June 11, 2017 to June 17, 2017
Old:  Above, My grandfather, Carl Stutt. On that latter at the age of 96!  Jeanne and I were lucky enough to have spent time with him.  I wish I knew him better.  New:  Next to my
grandfather' photo is a photo taken of Jeanne's uncle Joe on Father;s Day.  I am blessed to be a father, a grandfather, and an uncle as well.  And we celebrated Father's Day in style.  We
celebrated Father's Day on the day before so we could go to David and Rose Marie's home (Joe is her father) to celebrate Julies (Joe's grand daughter) graduation.  The group photo far
right is very special.  Joe with his children, and grandchildren and cousins.  If you know me by now, group photographs are super important to me, they capture moments in time we will
cherish forever.  We honor the past, live for the moment, and hope for another day.  So capturing moments in photographs, we preserve the memories of the day for our remembering in
the future.  Happy Father's Day to all the fathers in our family.
Week 25 - June 18, 2017 to June 24, 2017
Old:  My grandfather was featured in a new article about his career at Harry's garage.  He pretty much stayed in one place.
New:  On the other hand, his grandson seems to travel to many places to work as wedding officiant..  (i.e. This week included the Salinas Valley State Prison, and Point Pinos LIghthouse).  So
many more venues over the years.    My grandfather worked to an age around 90.  Way to go grandpa. On the other hand, his grandfather WILL NOT. .................   Maybe.
Week 26 (HALF YEAR) - June 25, 2017 to July 1, 2017
The Past:  Family vacations have always been a part of our lives.  As far back as I can remember, we have always tried to have at least one family vacation each year.  The past part is obviously a past vacation from 2004.  Thirteen years ago.  My how things change. So important are family photos.  We loose some family members, and as seen in "The
Present" part, we add family members.
2004 !   A family vacation from New Orleans to Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Cozumel, and back to New Orleans.  2017 !  A family vacation to Lake Tahoe.
After all the times, we only have photographs and memories to hold on to our cherished loved ones. The Past; A family cruise in July of 2004.  Two of our loved ones are gone, so this week's photos are dedicated to my mother in law Angie Petri and my sister in law Kim Petri.  Though gone, Never Ever Forgotten.
The Present.  July of 2017.   All our children are grown and have children of their own.  Including one on the way. I am so happy we are able to continue our tradition.  I know in my heart, one day Jeanne and I will not be in the vacation photographs, but I do hope the tradition continues and the importance of these vacation become part of all our grand
children's lives.  And hopefully passed on to their children.  We are all very blessed as long as we overcome little issues and hold on to each other while we are here.
Week 27  - July 2, 2017 to July 8, 2017
The Past:  Not too much in the past, I visited my Great Aunt Betty in Davenport Iowa.  The first time I met her was way back in 1975.  Last year, Jeanne
and I visited Aunt Betty again, this time in the hospital.  It was the last time I saw her.  Sadly, she passed away about 1-2 months ago and I found out
about it during our trip to Lake Tahoe.  I cried inside.  I adored my aunt.  She was wonderful.  I will miss her deeply.  Aunt Betty was my grandmother's
youngest and last surviving sister.  RIP Aunt Betty, I will never forget you.The Present:  After our trip to Lake Tahoe, this week has been a week of
trying to catch up with little things around the house.  So the face is fuzzy and so is the gray hair.  But I can BBQ no matter what I look like.  Hard core
BBQ'er.  I told Jeanne I am in the mood for some bbq ribs.  So this Sunday when Season 7 of Game of Thrones starts, I will be having some bbq
ribs.  YUM. The last wonder filled moments at Lake Tahoe was doing a photo session of Paula, David, and Noah.  Though rusty, I was able to
capture a few good photographs.  I guess I am not done yet.    And the circle of life continues.  We lost Aunt Betty, but we are welcoming Noah into
our lives.
Week 28  - July 9, 2017 to July 15, 2017
Old:  The last photographs of my great aunt Jean and my mother.  Below, Aunt Jean, her daughter Penny,
Jennifer, Richelle, and David.  Below that my mother and aunt Jean, talking about the past. The New:  Season 7
of my current favorite show, Game of Thrones.  Me, a nightwalker?  I guess 11 years working the graveyard shift
qualifies you.  So I celebrated the new GOT season with a smoked rib dinner.  So excited, I prepared it all,
Jeanne was able to just enjoy the wine and food.  Actually, she did the clean up so it was a group effort. Finally,
the owl?  Yep, we had a pigeon problem and guess what?  Instead of paying over $3000 for a professional
eliminator, I bought two solar owls.  After a few days, the pigeons are gone.  Price of the owls, $50!
Week 29  - July 16, 2017 to July 22, 2017
Old:  My senior photograph circa 1967-1968  Before, looking fresh and young. Newer.  Definitely "After."  Photograph I use for
my wedding officiant web site:  www.bayviewofficiants.org New.  For sure "Past After."   BBQ'd  a leg of lamb this week, and
while I was cooking, I thought how like the progress of the roast from rare to done is very much like the changes in our lives.....
Starting out fresh and young, than we really get cooked during our live until we are really done.  Oh, the roast was great!  So it
shows you that we can get better with age.  Like a good wine and a well BBQ's leg of lamb.  Salute with "Blumond" in hand.  As
for me, there is plenty of summer left to do more BBQ!
Week 30  - July 23, 2017 to July 29, 2017
Old:  School started this week, so I thought a couple of school photos from the past would be in order.  Above, high school photographs of my sister and I.
New.  Celebrating Ronan's 9th birthday.  Where are the years going?  So fast!  We enjoyed a birthday dinner at the Monterey Wharf.  The next day the week turned sour. I started having major foot
problems again this week.  It prompted two doctor visits and a solid week sleeping in my den.  I couldn't walk.  Antibiotics and finally gout medicine.  The week was filled with "lows."  I will spare you
the details.  Though my vitals were all normal, I was certainly ill.  On Thursday, I received an item I have been wanting for over a year.  I was able to watch it being delivered via my phone and home
cameras.  It's still in the box until I get well.  A big Thank you and a ton of love to my wife Jeanne for all the help she gave me this week.  She was/is my Florence Nightingale. Some big news, I
preformed my 800th wedding Monday (pre bed laden).  In addition to that.  Yelp rated me the number 1 wedding officiant in Salinas top 10.  I was amazed, and humbled.
Week 31  - July 30, 2017 to August 5, 2017
Old:  Above, I was 9 years old when this photo was taken, an old Polaroid.  I was dressed as a cowboy complete with a toy shotgun.  I posted this because all week since my foot infection, I have watched a lot
of Gunsmoke, Lone Ranger, and The Roy Rodgers Show.
New:  Isobel graduated from preschool this week.  Off to join her brother Ronan at San Carlos School.  Contrats to my grand daughter Isobel.  Thanks to my daughter Jennifer for providing the photographs of
Isobel's graduation.  New BBQ means out with the old.  My first gas grill, bye-bye.  It was a solid performer.   I recovered enough to travel to Sacramento to attend a two day BBQ class by Traeger BBQ Grills.
Dave and I had a great time and we learned a lot too.  We greeted the BBQ instructor Chad.
Week 32  - August 6, 2017 to August 12, 2017

NEW:  Hello everyone, Dave is holding his son NOAH GRAYSON LEGGETT.  Born Saturday August 19, 2017 at 4:23 AM.  9 pounds, 10 oz.  22 1/2 inches long.  Enjoy the photos provided by David and
Paula (and Noah).  Jeanne and I celebrate grandchild #4, namesake #1 with a glass of Blumond.    All I did this week was put together my new smoker bbq.  Yawn.....  CONGRATS to PAULA AND DAVID.
Love you both.
Week 33  - August 13, 2017 to August 19, 2017
The Old:  Circa 1953.  Probably the first family portrait of my mother, my sister, and me.  Taken in San Pedro while we lived in "the projects."  Military housing.
The New:  The very first family photograph of the newest addition to the family via face time.Technology is grand.  Jeanne and I are in the corner photo; while
Paula, Josie, Paul, David, and Noah are in the foreground. Talk about firsts.  I did a ''burn in" on the new Rec Tec Pellet Grill BBQ.  Followed up by a bacon seasoning
of the BBQ.  Then finally, my first biggie, a prime rib small roast.  It was very good.  But next time, I will pull it off the grill about 10 minutes earlier.
Week 34  - August 20, 2017 to August 26, 2017
Old:  Continuing with firsts, the photograph above is the first time I did a Christmas photograph with a timer on a tripod.  This photograph is the foundation of why I believe that doing photos on special occasions is vitally important.
So my advice is..... TAKE PHOTOGRAPHS for every special occasion.  Above, is Christmas.  From right to left.  Joci, Gina, John, Angie, Tony, Sue.  Bottom to top; Jennifer, David, Jeanne, and me.
Today.  Jeanne and I get a rare night out for dinner at Gusto's thanks to the Swart family; Jen, Steve, Ronan, and Isobel.  Then Sunday:  So it is important to photograph the first time we enjoyed Noah.  Love all around, Jeanne, Me,
Noah, Paula, and David.  Love you all.
Week 35  - August 27, 2017 to September 2, 2017
OLD:  Can't stress enough how important family portraits are.  After all, as we get older, these are the most important things in our
lives.  A major flood in Texas this week.  As people left their houses, the one thing I heard about the most was how important it
was to save family photographs.
NEW:  Grandchildren.  How they play Xbox 360.  Ronan and Isobel intense.  Roxi, intense in her way, and Noah.  FOOTBALL. Go
Michigan.  Michigan won, and so did my team, USC, "fight on."   Oh, that's me, I found a new xbox game I like as well.  Sample Pro
Photo of Noah.  Looking good.   And it was a hot week for everyone!  Salinas 105 this week!   One last thing.  CES registration
began this week.  Already confirmed for CES 2018!
Week 36  - September 3, 2017 to September 9, 2017
OLD:  Someone in the above photograph is celebrating her birthday this week.
This photograph was taken in Virginia Beach, VA when Jeanne and I traveled to
see my sister Johnnie, her husband Chuck, , and the first time we saw Dionne
(my niece).  Happy Birthday Dionne!  Circa 1973.
NEW:  I got to spend the day at Ronan and Isobel's school celebrating "Grandparent's Day."  It was wondeful.  Gifts, lunch, mass, book
fair.  Not to mention recess.  I got to visit their classrooms and I also met their teachers.  Jennifer bought lunch for all of us.  Thank
you Jen.   I think the best moment was during mass, the grandchildren gave a blessing to each one's grandparent.  Wow.    Thank you
Jennifer, Ronan, and Isobel for the fabulous day.
Week 37  - September 10, 2017 to September 16, 2017

and I having a nice birthday dinner.  Cousins Angie and Rich, Jeanne and I enjoying a wine tasting at Hahn Winery.  What a wonderful view of the
Salinas Valley and the Pinnacles.  Our next door neighbor Yolanda and her sister were there as well.  A super relaxing day with a great view what
more can you ask?
Week 38  - September 17, 2017 to September 23, 2017
OLD: 50 years ago, 1967.  I was both a Trojan Football player and a Trojan Band Member.  Alisal High School.  Above are photographs during that time.  I was in the local news paper about the
band.  My football number was 63.  Above, my only action photo.  And the AHS Trojan Mascot.  After Hartnell College, I received a scholarship to attend the University of Southern California.
NEW:  50 years later.  I am still a Trojan for life.  Robert and I attended a USC luncheon and the Athletic Director Lynn Swan was the speaker.  The next day, Robert and I were joined by friends
including Randy and Robert's brother Michael at the USC vs Cal Football game.  Photos include the band on the field, the players, and a traditional group shot. Lynn Swan was a Freshman 50
years ago and was a key player for the USC national championship in 1972.    What a great Trojan week.   FIGHT ON USC Trojans, FIGHT ON AHS Trojans.      (I graduated from AHS in 1968,
Hartnell in 1970, FODI Certification program at USC 1971, and am a proud 1994 B.S. Degree graduate from the University of San Francisco).  Go Dons.
Week 39  - September 24, 2017 to September 30, 2017
OLD:  A few older photographs of my son David in recognition of his birthday this week.  If you wonder where Noah gets his
spiked hair, look no further than these photographs.
NEW:  Happy Birthday David.  We spent the weekend at his home.  During that time, we did some wine tasting and some
Apple Hill celebration.  My daughter Jennifer and my grand daughter Isobel joined us.  A very wonderful relaxing weekend.
Thank you David for the fab tri tip meal.  Group shots include wine tasting at another great winery, Jeremy;  the other at
Abel's Pumpkin Patch.  And a few special moments with Isobel.  We love weekends like this.
Week 40  - October 1, 2017 to October 7, 2017

photograph of the last trip to Maui for two of our family members (Kim Petri and Angie Petri).  Each trip
precious, each memory important.
NEW:  This year, Jeanne and I wanted to visit NEW YORK CITY.  Glad we did.  This week's photographs will
only cover a portion,  New week will highlight more of our trip.  Next week, look for a link to the complete
photographic coverage of our trip to New York.  There are too many photographs to post here.  Plus a more
complete text on what we saw and what we experienced. Highlights will include First look at New York, New
York Pizza, Empire State Building, Street vendors. The Intrepid, the Space Shuttle, Water Taxi, war
memorials.  The 9/11 Memorial, Pubs, restaurants, views, subways, Broadway Show. Local places to dine.

Liberty, Ellis Island, Manhattan Bridge, Katz Diner, Times Square, and more.
This will be posted from Wed to Monday then next week will be from Monday to Saturday so I can catch up
from not posting last weekend.
Week 41  - October 8, 2017 to October 14, 2017
OLD:  During our visit to New York, we visited Ellis Island.  I looked up my oldest
relative and he was not listed, then I looked him up on a book we have about our
family and low and behold, he arrived in the US, lived his life, and died, before
Ellis Island was built.  Above, A.J. Emeis.
NEW:  So many photos of New York, when the web page is made, I will give more
details.  Most you can guess.  Ended the trip with a visit to cousins Angie and
Rich.  Then Jennifer and I went to see Alison Krauss in concert at the Cal
Berkeley Greek Theater.  She was amazing.
Week 42  - October 15, 2017 to October 21, 2017
OLD:  Above. That's me.  I think I was in the 4th or 5th grade.  About the same age as Ronan now.  Small photo.  Cycles and changes are always in play as we get older.
NEW:  Part of the "cycles" are a couple of traditions.  Coco has been in our company for a long time entertaining our children and now our grandchildren.  Another tradition I have kept
up with is purchasing a USC Cheerleader outfit for each of my grand daughters.  The USC photograph of Isobel was about 3 years ago.  USC photograph of Roxy was last week, I did
some photoshop to blend the two.
I have four wonderful grandchildren now.  They make life fun and interesting.
Week 43  - October 22, 2017 to October 29, 2017
OLD:  Party Time.  We often get together for a party or two.  The photograph above of my life long friend Herb and my sister Johnnie was taken at a party at  house.  Long time ago.
NEW:  Most recent party.  Jeanne and I attended a benefit party at the Folklore Winery.  Though we didn't really dress up, we might next year.  As for Halloween.  Photographs include
how our grandchildren dressed up for Halloween.  During this week, we took some additional photos including the first ever of our four grandchildren together.  Thank you Jennifer,
Paula, Richelle, and Jeanne for photo contributions.   In addition, Dave and I BBQ'd with the new RecTec this week.  A new trend in BBQ, pellet smokers.
October is Breast Cancer awareness month.  Be aware, it hits close to home.  Keep hope alive.
Week 44  - October 30, 2017 to November 4, 2017
OLD:  Yes, my sister was a Marine and is veteran.  She works in a Veterans medical clinic.  Many members of our family served in the military and are veterans.  Our
fathers, father-in-laws, brothers, sisters, newphews and friends..  I thank them for their service.  And in my officiating business, I give all active military a discount for my
service to thank them for their service.
NEW:  My sister and Ken this week at Olive Garden Restaurant.  Thank you Ken for the photo.  Salute. I got a clean bill of health from my doctor, so it was time to start
knee therapy.  I received my first series of shots to give some comfort to my old knees.  Thank you Dr. O.  One of the best parts of my current profession as wedding
officiant is I get to see great venues and  meet new people.  I don't usually receive photographs from the weddings, but this week, I received two.  One is extra special.  A
wedding I did was highlighted and featured in a trade social media site.  The wedding was at the Carmel Highlands Inn.  I have done 4 weddings for this featured company
with two already scheduled for 2018.  Currently I have preformed over 840 weddings.  Trying to reach 1000 before I consider my third retirement.
Week 45  - November 5, 2017 to November 11, 2017
OLD:  Too many times, we meet people too late in life to really get to know them.  So is the case with Charles and Carolyn Leggett.  Charles is my sister's father.  The photograph above was taken long
ago.  We met them after our mother died.  Now sadly, both are no longer in our lives.  Charles died years ago and just recently Carolyn passed away.  Rest in peace.  We wished we could have known
you more.  I thought a past photograph of my sister would be a good way to pay tribute to Charles D Leggett.
NEW:  Past meets past.  Almost annually, we join cousins Richard and Angie to go to the yearly craft fair.  This year, I was able to have a photograph of someone I met in the past and someone I used
to love to watch on TV.  Shields of Shields and Yarnell, MIMES.  He now does artwork and sells them at craft fairs. He was kind enough to let us take photographs with him.   How fortunate to meet him.
The remeeting was with Richard Searles.  I met him long ago and bought many of his CD's.  I bought three more that day and enjoyed our conversation about his music.
Finally, A frequent visitor to my den.  I am so fortunate to have wonderful grandchildren.  Roxy is one of four.  She is so cute.  Here she is sitting in my den looking all grown up.  But that only lasted
seconds.  Fun times.
Week 46  - November 12, 2017 to November 18, 2017
OLD:  It was 46 years ago today that I asked Jeanne to be my wife.  We took this photograph which became our first Christmas card.  The photograph was taken at Lover's Point at Pacific Grove.  We have
changed, so has Lover's Point.
TODAY:  What Thanksgiving looks like this week.. Each celebrated on a different day for different reasons.  We are thankful that those miles apart, we are still a close family.  Though much has changed, some
things remain the same.  We are thankful we have each other and that we share a great amount of family love. Happy Thanksgiving.
Week 47  - November 19, 2017 to November 25, 2017
OLD:  My look back would never be complete without recognizing my loving in-laws.  From the very beginning, they were more than in-laws, they
were mom and dad.  My wife Jeanne's  parents were the most loving people I have every known.  Tony Petri had a hard exterior, but inside he was
a loving parent.  Angie, my mother in law was truly an angel on this earth.  I miss them both dearly.  But as we approach Christmas, they will be
forever in my heart.
NEW:  I know Tony and Angie would love all their great grandchildren including this little guy, Noah.  The youngest of our grandchildren. He is a
happy baby and so full of smiles.  We are blessed to have three wonderful children and four wonderful grand children.  On our way to visit David,
Paula, and Noah, a reliable vehicle finally took it's last gasp of service.  My 2003 Expedition broke down on the way to Sacramento.  So I had to stop
and was encouraged to move up to the a new Expedition.  So I did.  It's an amazing vehicle.  So I am sure it will be a fine new vehicle to replace the
old.  So far, I am loving it.  Life moves on.  Christmas approaches, with a rich family history and tradition.  As time passes, we can only hold on to
warm memories.  I hope you have a wonderful Christmas season.
Week 48  - November 26, 2017 to December 2, 2017
OLD:  Family photographs of our joyous times on the island of Maui.  From the luaus to the BBQ area on the roof of the Royal Mauian to the top of Haleakala.  Warm and wonderful.
NEW:  Not as nice is spending the day waiting for my Christmas president to be fully detailed.  But you know, the holiday season is upon us.  Jeanne and I went to Hahn Vineyard for their annual
wreath making event (our second time).  Making wreaths, enjoying lunch and a bottle of their very nice Merlot with that view, what could be better to bring in the holidays.  Well, one thing might be the
Christmas photographs of Noah that Paula (his mom, our daughter in law) shares with the family.  From Maui to Merry Christmas, find the joys in life.  I met a photographer at a wedding I was
doing.  We worked together before.  He wants me to join him in making package deals.  Sounds good.  Plus, I have found a new family photographer?  He does good work so maybe so.
Two weeks to Christmas.
Week 49  - December 3, 2017 to December 9, 2017
OLD:  Although this photograph was taken a few short years ago and was posted during 2013.  I post it
because it was taken in the past and on December 2017, Our dear Stutt family lost the elder statesman of
the family, Henry "Hank" Stutt.  We first met Hank at a family reunion during August of 2013.  Lost too soon,
we only began to know him as a loving and giving man.  We will miss you Hank.   I know your family will
keep you close in their hearts.  NEW:  Never know when bad things might hit you.  My daughter Jennifer
finds herself fighting cancer.  Much like her dear friend Ann.  Ann survives and In my heart I know Jen will
too.   We discovered the splendor of visiting Solvang during the Christmas season.  Solvang is certainly a
Christmas town and is just what we need to lift our spirits and put us in the Christmas mood.   We needed
the boost after everything else that is going on.
Week 50  - December 10, 2017 to December 16, 2017
OLD:  Firsts.  My first memories in San Pedro at the projects.  I was three years old.  Look at that stroller?  My first job, burning trash at Cava's Market.  Jeanne and my Engagement
photograph, a first.  At Safeway, the first time I became a store manager.  Ahh, my first destination love, Maui
NEW:  Life now.  My oldest daughter is in a major fight with cancer.  She is progressing and I know she will win.  My first grandchild Ronan,  A tradition, making ginger bread creations
for Christmas.  My second grandchild, Isobel.  She is participating in the annual tradition of gingerbread decorating.  My second granddaughter, Roxy, her smiles are very contagious.
And my 4th grandchild, Noah.  Wow, he is growing so fast, I can't believe it.  And Noah's first Christmas photographed with family and the Grinch.
Traditions:  I have never missed a Star Wars premier.  So here I am watching the newest Star Wars movie at 6:20 AM.
After 10 years of doing weddings, I still see amazing sites.  I preformed a wedding ceremony for a couple from Nepal.  Posted is a photo of the couple receiving a blessing from their
grandmother.  One of the reasons I still do weddings is for moments like this.
No matter how I am physically doing, I always say "I am blessed."    And as a Christmas thought, look for your blessings, they are there.
Merry Christmas to everyone.
Week 51  - December 17, 2017 to December 23, 2017
OLD: As the end of 2017 approaches, there are a few last photographs to post from the past.

Jeanne and I having a quiet? pre Christmas dinner.  Photos of family enjoying Christmas In
The Park in San Jose.  Then photos of our Christmas Eve.  Family and special times.
And finally:  History.  My great, great, great, grandfather sold this windmill to come to
America.  Old photo from the pre 1900 to recent photograph of the windmill now.  Next to

great uncle and is the place my grandfather worked all his life as a welder.  That photograph
was taken by Ed Whitney.
